District Phone-Free Policy

To help students stay focused and fully engaged in the classroom, the Huber Heights City Schools Board of Education has approved a district-wide phone-free policy that will be in effect for the 2025-2026 school year.
The policy eliminates student cellphone use during school hours to support academic success, promote positive mental health, and foster stronger connections between students and teachers. Research shows that cellphone use in schools can negatively impact student performance and increase levels of anxiety and depression.
Under the new policy, students will be required to keep their cellphones stored and out of sight during the school day. Cellphones, smartwatches that use cellular data, headphones, and other electronic communication devices should not be visible, turned on, or used unless approved by a building administrator or classroom teacher.
Exceptions to the policy will be made for students with documented medical needs or approved educational plans.
Each school building will determine how the policy is implemented, and families can expect to receive more information directly from their student's school before the start of the school year.
This step brings HHCS into compliance with state law requiring schools to adopt this policy.
We ask parents and guardians not to call or text student phones during the school day. To reach your child in an emergency, please contact the school office.
