Principal's Message

wendy bridgesWelcome to the 2021-2022 school year! As much as we would like to forget this past school year in some respects, I believe that we should not. Every experience we live is a valued learning experience. It would be easy to want to forget how hard we had to work at our jobs as teachers, students, staff  and parents at the regulations surrounding the pandemic. But by doing so, we risk forgetting the many courageous victories and challenges we have conquered. Most importantly, we shouldn’t forget about how we helped each other get through it and move forward. We shouldn’t forget how doing good deeds for each other made us feel. We shouldn’t forget the incredible resilience and determination of our teachers and students, and we shouldn’t forget the grace we showed one another.

Despite the pandemic’s regulations and restrictions, Wayne High School had many things to celebrate during the 2020-2021 school year.  We were able to welcome students back into the building and continue to educate them, along with their online peers, via one-to-one technology and various teaching strategies; we were able to get through all three athletic seasons, achieving great success in many of our offered sports; JROTC, band concerts and drama productions provided opportunities for our students to showcase their talents; community service projects such as the National Honor Society’s fundraiser for Choices Inc. provided essential living necessities and toys for children in the foster care system; and we were able to hold prom as well as our traditional graduation ceremony to recognize our seniors who faced a challenging and often times, disappointing senior year.

With that school year behind us, and summer coming to an end, I am looking forward to what this new year will bring. During the summer break, 250 students took advantage of free summer school classes, the maintenance and custodial crews did an amazing job getting the building ready for students, teachers participated in an abundance of professional learning opportunities, and along with our already exceptional team of educators, we have several new additions to our staff this fall. Please welcome:

As a parent, it has always been comforting to know that my child was in a safe place, participating in character building activities, socially interacting with others in healthy ways, and surrounded by adults who cared about him. Your students are important to us and we have a building full of adults who care about and sincerely want to help them succeed. Our students are the most important people in a conversation. This assurance of and concern for student success is what allows for growth as we begin a new school year.

A special welcome class of 2025! When you enter Wayne High School you will feel the tradition of greatness and pride of being a Warrior. Those who have walked the halls before you have set a standard of excellence; it is your responsibility to raise that level even higher. Reach for success; we are here to help you.

Please read through the remainder of this communication as it contains important information to provide for a smooth transition back to school. I look forward to all that this year has to offer our students: an exceptional learning experience, quality extracurricular opportunities, and most of all, the support of our community in all of their educational endeavors and pursuits. If I can be of any assistance to you in the opening days of school, please feel free to reach out at wendy.bridges@myhhcs.org.

Educationally Yours,

Wendy Bridges

“We love and care for you and there is nothing you can do about it!”
